The image above shows SUPERIOT Demo 4: a RIS-based large-area IoT repeater dynamically steering a wireless beam towards a tracked IoT node.
This demo shows how the radio environment itself can be programmed in real time.
SUPERIOT Demo 4, led by INESC TEC, demonstrates how large-area Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) can act as smart, adaptive IoT repeater nodes in future indoor or outdoor scenarios. In the demo, a RIS dynamically steers and redirects wireless signals based on the real-time position of a mobile IoT device, obtained from an indoor localisation subsystem. By integrating localisation, control, and reconfigurable radio hardware through the SUPERIOT MQTT platform, the demonstrator illustrates how walls or other surfaces could become intelligent communication elements, enhancing coverage, reliability, and energy efficiency in dense IoT scenarios.
