MPICOSYS was the lead on SUPERIOT Demo 1 which considers an industrial use case. The energy autonomous IoT nodes are used to track the progress of parts (in this case stators, part of an electric motor) in the assembly line through a factory. Different rooms in the factory are represented by the different zones in the demo. Of particular interest is the automatic switching between light and radio communication, depending on the local environment. The first part of the video shows a battery-based solution, and at the end is the hybrid version (Si-based and printed electronics) of the node which uses flexible solar panels and micro-supercapacitors (from NOVA) to achieve energy autonomy with sustainable technology.
